Do you consider yourself a mystic? What is a mystic?
You, as a human being living upon this beautiful earth, look into the eyes of a newborn baby.
You hear a song that makes your heart sing and your whole being vibrate. You take a walk around a lake and feel gratitude for the health of your body and the air you breathe in that sustains you.
You hold the hand of someone who dies.
These are moments.
Moments in time of our lives upon Earth.
Moments in time that are doorways. Doorways to the Divine. To that which is beyond that moment as it seems to exist on the surface.
As you stand on the threshold of the doorway, you wonder and you question.
What is beyond? Before birth, after death?
What is the Essence of Life?
What is our greatest potential as human beings on the Earth?
What is true in the world – beyond me and my thoughts in the world?
What is Divine Truth?
How am I part of the Divine and the Divine part of me?
Who am I? Truly, in the deepest sense?
And, why am I here?
You desire to know, to understand………..beyond just your intellectual thinking.
With courage, you step over that threshold of the doorway and explore to see what is beyond the self-created and society-created screens to what exists beyond –- before us, with us, and after us……….that which is eternal and omnipresent.
These are the explorations of a mystic. To look beyond the obvious in matters to discover deeper truths about life and our connection to the Divine. To realize our wholeness within the universe and within the Divine.
The mystic looks at all of life with great curiosity and as a welcoming opportunity to discover, awaken to, and express the Divine.
You may arrive at that threshold of the doorway through great awe and wonder at the beauty of the Divine within the Universe. The path of the Via Positiva.
Or maybe you arrived at the doorway through a place of deep silence, darkness, and suffering. The path of the Via Negativa.
These spiral together in our lives and bring us to places of deeper questioning and desire to know eternal truths.
Both of us can enter this mystical path of life. Yes, you can stand at that threshold of that doorway and cross over. And I can stand at that threshold and cross over.
For every one of us is a mystic.
We can enter the mystical as much through beauty (Via Positiva) as through contemplation and suffering (Via Negativa). We are born full of wonder and can recover it at any age.
The 6th principle of Creation Spirituality: Every one of us is a mystic.

Are you an artist?
When you first read this question, what was your immediate reaction?
“No not really, I’m not very artistic.”
Or was it closer to, “Of course, I’m an artist” as images of the art you create come to your mind.
Or maybe somewhere in between?
When we think of an artist, we often think of someone who has a developed skill and talent in one of the arts of singing, dancing, drawing, painting, drama, or perhaps poetry.
True, yet we can expand that view to areas that may not come to mind right away.
Each one of us is capable of creating, of bringing forth something new to life in a moment of inspiration, imagination, and creativity.
You are an artist. I am an artist. Every one of us is an artist.
As an artist, creativity is the sweet nectar of the Divine brought to Earth through you.
When that creative inspiration arrives, a vibrant flow of energy flows through your whole body. You know you are part of something greater.
You lose track of what is outside of yourself in the world – schedules, meals, tasks, and time. Your thoughts dissolve and this creative force infuses your whole being.
You have an inner urge to express something new. One that charges forward and can’t easily be stopped.
This energetic force moves toward form. Something new and valuable that had not existed or been known before comes to life.
You may paint, write a song, dance, or cook a meal. You may sketch, write a story, design a building, or take a photo.
The inspired artist through the coaxing and caressing of cold clay brings the gift of life to a sculpture.
Through the dancing of rich, vibrant splashes of paint on paper, the artist brings forth a visual feast for the eyes.
Whether through words or colors or movement or sounds, you, as artist and the vehicle for creative inspiration, give it expression. a path that flows out into the world.
To be inspired --- is to breathe in the breath of life.
For IN --- SPIRE means to breathe in. The inflowing breath of life flows in without form and flows out through your creative expression into the world in form.
In ancient Greece, the Greeks believed that artistic inspiration came from one of the 9 Muses. It was gifted from one of these female deities so that the human would be inspired to create in form.
Today, when your Divine muse calls upon you, breathe in the sweet fragrance of creative inspiration. You'll feel this magnetic pull toward creation.
It 's time to make, to do, to move, to bring life to something new.
Your focus on this new life will become all encompassing, as you dive in to all parts of the beauty, truth, and harmony of a birth. You will feel fully alive in this world, completely enveloped by this force.
You will not rest until this force of creative inspiration reaches a place of satisfying completion for the moment.
And when you do come to a place of rest for the day, you will feel drained and at peace, with a deep sense of gratitude for this moment of creativity. Ready for delicious rest.
Creativity is fundamental expression of the human being. An expression of the inner self, the authentic self. An expression of self discovery bringing to us a possibility for self healing.
It is part of why we are here upon Earth. Our destiny work in the world.
Through our creative expression, we can imagine and create the new ideas, the new solutions, the new ways of thinking that are needed within our communities, locally and globally. It can become a powerful healing force in the world. So that we can live more fully and peacefully upon our great Mother Earth.
Pick up a paintbrush or a pencil or a lump of clay. Or whatever you choose. See what you breathe in from the Divine as creative inspiration.
And as Vincent Van Gogh said,
“If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced”
For Creativity is the breath of life.
Every one of us is an artist.
Whatever the expression of our creativity, it is our prayer and praise. (Via Creativa). The 7th principle of Creation Spirituality.

Needing a Little Help to Navigate your Days in the Time of Bomb Cyclones and False Ballistic Missile Alarms?
Ahhh………..I can certainly understand!
I’m in the midst of preparing the course that I am teaching on The Essence of Creation Spirituality with David next month, and I’m ever grateful for this work in my life. It’s been such a blessing in my own life and certainly a foundation to help me navigate through the moments of bomb cyclones (yes, I was on the East Coast when the Cyclone hit!) in my life.
Now I have the opportunity to share this work with others. How exciting! And what an opportunity to help others find more of a sense of calm, security, and hope in challenging times.
Over the next few weeks, here in my blog, I want to share with you an introduction to a few of my favorites tools that stem from the principles at the heart of Creation Spirituality.
Inner Work as a Rich and Colorful Tapestry
The first principle I want to share focuses on understanding our inner work as a 4-fold journey. This has been the foundation of my own inner work on my spiritual path and has guided me in my daily life. Honestly, the tools I am going to share with you in the weeks ahead have kept me afloat through difficult moments.
This 4-fold journey is not experienced as 4 separate paths that we walk on sequentially, one at a time. It is a great tapestry that we weave , with 4 threads of rich and luminous, yet different, colors.
The first thread that dances within this grand tapestry is the path of the Via Positiva. This is the thread where we find our expression of awe, wonder, joy, and delight in the world and in our lives.
Here we have a sense of something that is greater than ourselves, and we’re in awe and amazement at all that we experience.
Are you able to enter into this place of Via Positiva within your daily life?
Feeling a sense of awe and even delight within the moments of your day?
You pick up your glass of water and take a drink. The cool liquid slides down your throat quenching its dryness. You feel deep appreciation for the clean water you have access to. You marvel how it replenishes your body giving you energy and health. You know that water is the foundation of life and that you are blessed to have water to drink and nourish you.
The second thread that moves within the tapestry of our inner life is the Via Negativa.
This thread is one of darkness - that place where the glimmering light does not shine. Where we are in the depths of a cave – alone and in silence.
There we experience deep pain and grief. An unknowing. A serious illness or death. A loss of a friend, a parting of a relationship. A loss of a job or financial stability. A betrayal of trust or violation of respect.
Here we can let go of all that is around us – within and without. Here we can surrender and let be.
Here there is nothingness.
An emptying occurs in the Via Negativa. Within the emptiness, a deep power of listening emerges. A listening to our true self. A listening of what the world speaks to us.
This is the thread of deep and vast darkness that weaves as Via Negativa within the tapestry.
As the threads of light and darkness dance together, there is the possibility for something new to come into creation. A new life is birthed as the third thread emerges, the Via Creativa.
Where previously there was nothing, a spark is ignited to bring life to the path of imagination and creativity.
We look with fresh eyes at this new thread that is being born and envision new possibilities for the future.
Through new solutions, new ideas, and new ways of thinking, we have the possibility of becoming a powerful healing force in the world. These new creations have the potential for a new consciousness that can create change in the world.
So that all of us can live fully and peacefully on the Earth.
The fourth thread in the colorful tapestry is the Via Transformativa, the path of transformation. This thread dances through the entire tapestry, creating a change to the form that already exists within the weaving.
As the threads dance together in our lives, we can see and understand others (and ourselves) as we celebrate our shared joys and heal our shared pain. Then we have the possibility to sow a seed within ourselves that truly changes who we are and the world around us.
The colorful tapestry changes – it glimmers in a new way, has a new quality of color and shape.
It changes those who experience it. The individual threads are no longer singular, but transformed into a new whole.
The thread of the Via Positiva, the path of awe, delight and wonder.
The thread of the Via Negativa, the path of darkness, suffering, letting go.
The thread of the Via Creativa, the path of creativity and birth.
The thread of the Via Transformative, the path of change and celebration.
Weaving the threads together into one great tapestry, we have the foundation for our inner work in our life’s journey.
Inner work that heals ourselves and the world.
